For a full year course, grades received in the first and second semester account for 90% of the student’s final grade. The midterm and final assessments account for 10% of the student’s final grade.

For a semester (half year) course, grades received for the first and second quarters account for 90% of the student’s final grade. The final assessment accounts for 10% of the student’s final grade.

Students who receive a 90% or higher average in any course prior to the final exam will be exempt from completing that final exam.

The courses in our Program of Studies are categorized according to three levels of academic challenge. The three levels of courses offered reflect the volume of work, the pace of learning, and the level of independence required beyond the classroom setting for successful completion.

Level 3 - Advanced Placement (AP) and UCONN ECE courses

Level 2 - Honors level courses

Level 1 - Academic level courses

All courses taken at Lakeview High School are included in the calculation of the weighted GPA.  A weighted grade calculation determines a student’s grade point average. 

A student’s grade point average is calculated by multiplying each course credit by the grade weight earned, then dividing that sum by the number of credits taken to date. The resulting grade point average is then placed in rank order.

The graduating class is ranked at the end of each academic year, except for during a student’s 12 grade year, when rank is run for the final time at the end of semester one. This final rank will determine the graduating class Valedictorian (the student with the highest rank calculated to the point of distinction in the graduating class) and Salutatorian (the student with the second highest rank calculated to the point of distinction in the graduating class). Rank is reported on each student’s transcript. Class rank is based on each student’s weighted grade point average (GPA). A student’s weighted GPA is determined by the assignment of points for grades at each level of course difficulty according to the chart listed below. 

Transfer students will be eligible for an official Lakeview High School rank after four (4) consecutive semesters working with our Program of Studies.

Lakeview High School uses a weighted grade point average system. The three levels of courses offered reflect the volume of work, the pace of learning, and the level of independence required beyond the classroom setting for successful completion. Each grade has an associated quality point value depending upon the phase level of the course as follows:

Honor roll is reported at the end of each marking period, and is based on a student’s performance in each individual course they are taking at that time.
