Weekly Update

Dear Center School Families,

As Superintendent Leone mentioned in his communication on Tuesday, "the safety of our children in our schools must always remain a priority in society." At Center School, we have instituted several security protocols based on recommendations from federal, state, and local safety authorities, including but not limited to:

  • 12 external cameras and 14 internal cameras that are monitored throughout the day by School Security Personnel and other staff

  • double buzzer entries

  • window tinting in areas that will not obstruct visibility of emergency response teams

  • Securely identification screening at school entrances

  • Safe School Helpline that allows for anonymous reporting of concerns to the district

  • visitor identification badges

  • required vendor visitor protocols

  • emergency drill training that often includes local emergency responders

  • active shooter training that often includes local emergency responders

  • active panic alarms that are regularly tested

  • active panic alarms that are regularly tested

Your input is essential as we continue to provide a safe and secure environment for the school community. Please feel strongly encouraged to contact me should you wish to sit down and discuss any questions you may have regarding current school/district safety and security.

At this time of year, we start looking forward to the coming school year.  We would like to offer you the opportunity to provide input for your child’s placement regarding learning styles, or other information related to how your child learns. Please complete and return the Parent Placement Letter in the Virtual Backpack.  All feedback must be received no later than April 24, 2023.

As a reminder, if you are coming into the building for a meeting or visiting your child’s classroom, you are required to bring your ID and scan in using the device in the lobby.  If you are picking up your child (during the day or after school) you will need to show identification.  We have new staff members in the office and we need to ensure that students are leaving with an approved adult.

This week we practiced our fire drill procedure.  This is an activity we complete monthly in accordance with state requirements.  We also practice 3 lockdown drills yearly.  We are continually reviewing and improving our procedures with regards to student and staff safety.

Thank you for sharing your child(ren) with us and partnering with us in your child’s education!

Best,

Lisa

Fitness Bag Information

We are excited to introduce our Fitness bags which will be sent home with all Kindergarten through Grade 3 students this year.  The activity is sponsored by Fit Together.  Fit Together is a community collaborative formed in 2011.  The initial purpose was to identify and implement environmental and social improvements in the Northwest corner of CT. Their mission is to build the healthiest kids, families and communities through sustainable strategies that foster healthy eating and active living.

Each bag has a variety of activities for students to share with their family and friends.  Suggestions of games will be included, but you are welcome to create your own fun as well.  Bags will be sent home each Friday with one student from the class.  The bag should be returned with all the contents on the following Thursday so that another classmate can enjoy the following week.

If you would like to email pictures or share any feedback, we would love to have it.  Information can be sent to the centerschool@lpsct.org address.
